Shops, Boats and Muddy Boots
Epoxy flooring in Central gets put to work. The city covers about 62.5 square miles, far more room than most suburbs, and one of its mottos is "Geaux Outside." Bass boats, deer stands, side-by-sides, tractors and tool benches all need a place to live. We coat the shops and garages that hold that gear, and we pick systems for how you actually use the space.
A floor for the boat and the side-by-side
Trailer tires, mud and bilge water are hard on bare concrete. A full-broadcast flake system with a thick topcoat stands up to trailer jacks and the grit that falls off an ATV. Around the wash-down area, we add extra texture so wet boots keep their footing. If you hose out the shop, tell us where the water goes so we can plan the slope and the edges.
When the rivers rise
Central sits between the Comite River on its west side and the Amite River on its east, and the two meet at the city's southern edge. In 2016, local reporting cited on Wikipedia described significant flooding in Central, and the mayor said about 25,000 residents were affected. A coating does not keep floodwater out of a building. What it does is give mud a smooth, sealed surface that hoses off, instead of porous concrete that holds silt and odor.
Testing a slab that took on water
If your shop flooded, the concrete may still hold moisture, and old silt can be trapped in cracks. We grind, clean and run moisture readings before we commit to a schedule. Should the numbers come back high, a damp-slab primer goes on first and shows up on the quote.
Chemicals in the workshop
Gas cans, two-stroke oil, hydraulic fluid and brake cleaner all end up on a working shop floor. Most epoxy topcoats hold up to occasional drips if they are wiped soon. For heavier use, we suggest a chemical-resistant urethane or polyaspartic top layer and a light color that shows leaks before they spread.
Central Facts Behind Our Recommendations
- Two rivers. Central lies between the Comite River on the west and the Amite River, which forms its border with Livingston Parish.
- 2016 flooding. Central was among the East Baton Rouge areas with significant flooding in 2016; the mayor put the number of affected residents at 25,000.
- Room to spread out. The city covers about 62.5 square miles, and its motto list includes "Geaux Outside."
- Young city. Residents voted to incorporate on April 23, 2005, largely to form a separate school system.

Central Questions
What floor system holds up to a boat trailer and an ATV?
A full flake broadcast with a thick topcoat. Trailer jacks, gritty tires and falling wrenches are hard on thin one-coat kits, and this build stands up to them far better.
My Central shop flooded in 2016. Can it still be coated?
In most cases, yes. We grind out old residue, clean the cracks and check moisture. If the slab is still damp, we use a primer built for that and note it on the quote.
Will gasoline and hydraulic fluid damage the floor?
Drips wiped up promptly should not harm a good topcoat. In heavy-use shops we suggest a chemical-resistant top layer for extra protection.
Can you add grip near a wash-down area?
Yes. We broadcast extra anti-slip aggregate in that zone so the floor stays sure-footed when it is wet.
